NicEdit – AJAX content editor for textareas

Just quickly stumbled upon this tool that allows you to use textareas within your forms, and dynamically change them into content editors ala word, etc.

End IE6 – Persuade your visitors to move to a better, more secure browser

Yes, IE6 was amazing, in 2001 the owners of end6.org proclaim, and yes – they are totally right. They even provide a javascript that you can embed in your page, so that whenever a visitor with IE6 visits your page, the following warning sign appears:

There is another site with exactly the same idea, called savethedevelopers.org that has a more subtle warning which scrolls down at the top-right of the page:

Is it our job to hastle users to upgrade to IE6, you might be asking? Well, yes and no.

It really is the vendor’s job of notifying the user, but since some folk just don’t bother updating their system and probably have a load of trojans and spyware on their machine, there can’t be a lot done about these folk! Until they loose their system completely and have to re-install there isn’t a lot that can be done.

But at least warning people from your own websites could be something to save a few from this lackluster browser – i prefer the first option of getting them to choose a new browser but on some sites where discretion is advised the second option is a better one.

MooTools RabidRatings Rating System

Most AJAX type rating widgets use star and half-star images as default with mouse over events on each star. Rabid Ratings is a new MooTools ratings system which allows users to rate virtually anything with cute hearts icons. Rabid Ratings uses a reverse alpha-transparent PNG as a background image to achieve infinitely complex precision and robust visual effects with a very low overhead. You can customize your own PNG image and modifying the ratings.css stylesheet as well. The integrate is easy but it also need a mySQL database to store the data of votes and score.

SlickSpeed – MooTools CSS Selectors Suite

The developer of MooTools Javascript framework wrote a benchmarking tool called SlickSpeed. The tool tests speed and validity of CSS selectors for most recent versions Javascript libraries like MooTools, Prototype and jQuery in any web browsers. Every framework runs in his own iFrame therefore no conflicts can happen. Tests are run selector by selector with an interval to prevent the browser from freeezing. There is no library or framework is included in the main Javascript test to avoid discrimination. The source code is also available from Google Code.
